Being openly transgender today takes courage, especially for those who are young and still in school, and who can't always choose the people who surround them. It is up to us as a society to protect children by creating safe school environments where no children have to worry about basic human needs (like where to use the bathroom!)
Recently, The Department of Education and Department of Justice retracted their guidance on protecting transgender students in schools across the country. These students are simply trying to live according to their own gender identity, and they deserve to be protected and accommodated under civil rights laws, including Title IX. Today, we've provided a script you can use to call the Secretary of Education's office of civil rights and urge them to take additional steps to protect transgender students. You can reference the calling script HERE.
